Ideas Intersecting

Design in Practice

Based in Sydney, ideas intersecting is a research platform which engages with experimental design practice across a diverse range of disciplines. Collaborators share an appreciation for the power of design practice to bring together seemingly disparate ideas, disciplines and domains of knowledge to create innovative outcomes.

Bic Tieu is a Sydney based research, designer/maker of jewellery and objects whose works are influenced by transnational dialogues on cross cultural diaspora and identity. Bic’s practice engages with her oriental sensibilities and western concepts to narrate and explore through the object as subject. Her latest research embodies contemporary graphic making methods, synthesized with digital technology and traditional Japanese metal and lacquer application to create a myriad of forms and surfaces to address these themes.

Carly Vickers is a designer/maker and researcher with work spanning conceptual, graphic, and object design. Carly’s work engages with the application of design theory to other fields as a translatable and adaptable model of thinking and a method for communicating in accessible, engaging and innovative ways. Her current research explores gesture as a visual communication device in the live performance of Western classical music.
